Short trips force hard choices. If you only have a few days in the city, every day spent outside Paris is a day not spent inside it. The good news is that day excursions from Paris come in very different sizes, from a few hours to a full 14-hour adventure. The trick is matching the size of the trip to the size of your schedule.

Below is a simple way to choose, sorted by how much time you really have. Prices and details come from the published tours of Paris City Vision; you can learn more about each one, including current prices and booking terms, on their site.

If you have 2 days in Paris

Honestly? Stay in the city. Two days is barely enough for the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and a walk day trips from Paris France along the Seine.

If you still want a taste of something beyond the centre, choose something short:

  • Versailles half-day guided: reserved-access palace and gardens tickets, about one hour inside the Royal Apartments with a guide and earphones, then free time. From €79 with coach, from €55 without transport, at the time of writing (October 2026). Meeting point: 6 Avenue du Dr Brouardel, 75007.
  • A 90-minute open-top bus city tour from €29, or a 1-hour Seine cruise from €17. Not excursions in the strict sense, but a fast way to see a lot in little time.

If you have 3 to 4 days in Paris

Now one full-day excursion makes sense. Pick the one that matters most to you:

  • Normandy D-Day beaches (13 h): for history. From €119 without lunch.
  • Loire Valley castles (13 h 15): for châteaux. Chenonceau, Chambord and Cheverny with entrance tickets. From €90 self-visit or €120 guided.
  • Disneyland Paris: for families. 1 Day/2 Parks with shuttle from €48. The shuttle ride is at least an hour each way, leaving the park at 7:00 p.m.

Put your excursion in the middle of your stay, not on your last day. A late return the night before a flight is stressful.

If you have 5 days or more

You can afford a long day further afield:

  • Mont-Saint-Michel (14 h): village and Benedictine abbey. From €89 at leisure, €105 audio guided, €125 guided. Lots of steps.
  • Bruges, Belgium (14 h): a different country in one day. Guided walk through the Béguinage, the Burg, the Markt and more, plus a canal cruise from April to October. From €85 self-visit, €120 guided. Non-EU residents need a passport. The official Visit Bruges site is useful for deciding what to see in your free time.

If you want everything arranged

There is also a 5-day / 4-night package from €920 per person, at the time of writing. It bundles a 4-star hotel with breakfast, guided Giverny with lunch, guided Versailles, the Eiffel Tower second floor, a Seine dinner cruise, Moulin Rouge, a guided Louvre visit and airport transfers.

Quick tips for time-poor travelers

  1. Check the return time. Most full-day excursions bring you back around 8:00 p.m. or later.
  2. Check the departure point. Some leave from near the Eiffel Tower, others from Bercy in the 12th.
  3. Use the cancellation window. Most day excursions from Paris allow free cancellation up to 2 days before departure (Disneyland: 3 days).
  4. Do not stack two long days back to back. Your feet will not thank you.
  5. Pick one theme. History, castles, a fairytale abbey or theme parks. Trying to do all of them on a short trip leaves you exhausted.

The simple rule for day excursions from Paris

The less time you have, the shorter your excursion should be. The best day excursions from Paris are the ones that leave you with energy for the city when you get back.
